Admix DS670
Dry Shake Surface Hardener
ADMIX DS670 is a ready to use powder for dry shaking on fresh concrete surfaces in order to improve abrasion resistance of concrete floors. The product is comprised of high resistant industrial granules, Portland cement, and chemical admixtures which provide continuous protection to concrete floors against wear, impact, abrasion and liquid penetration.
Where to apply
– Workshops and industrial floors.
– Car parks and machineries installations areas.
– Loading benches and refueling stations.
– Industrial cool rooms, garages and car washes.
– Power stations, generators and turbine seats.
– Warehouses and aircraft hangers.
– Helicopter pads.
Technical Specifications
Appearance: Gray powder
Bulk density: Approx. 1.5 g/cm³
Abrasion resistance: more than 200% of normal concrete substrates
Properties
ADMIX DS670 is premixed in factory under controlled quality assurance for providing a uniform floor. Wear and abrasion resistance is due to high mechanical strength industrial granules. Also selected chemical admixtures make the product superior to resist against impact and penetration of aggressive liquids. The product forms an integral part of floor surface and will not delaminate, so it is maintenance free and has long life performance.
Application method
The substrate must be in accordance with ACI 201.2R & ACI 302.1R considering a well concrete mix design. Cement contents, w/c ratio and slump should meet the requirements of standard. Suggested mix design for dry shake application is as follows:
Cement content (SRC or OPC) Min 320 kg/m³
Water cement ratio 40% to 50%
Slump 75 to 85 mm
Compressive strength Min 31 N/mm²
Concrete should not segregate and bleed or contain more than 3% air. Water reducing admixtures are recommended for concrete placement and optimum performance. Screeds or concrete, to which ADMIX DS670 is to be applied, should have a minimum thickness of 80 mm. Following placement, concrete should be leveled off with a straight edge and then vibrated.
The surface is then floated with a wooden float ensuring that it is not closed. Thereafter sprinkle dry shake along edges of bays (approx. 80mm strips) where expansion and construction joints will be located. Float into surface using a wooden float. Then apply to whole surface which is neither too wet nor too dry, ambient temperatures will dictate when the material is to be applied. Generally in temperatures of 35-45°C a waiting period of 30-40 minutes is recommended. This may extend in temperatures of less than 35°C.
Note: Never apply dry shake in direct sunshine or windblown as the concrete surfaces get dry so fast and delamination may happen.
Using a raised trestle which spans the slab, the material is broadcast by hand onto the wet concrete surface. The application is carried out as follow
1- Apply two third of the required material to the concrete ensuring uniform distribution.
2- Allow applied material to absorb moisture from the concrete surface; a uniform darker color will be apparent.
3- Using a wooden float, level the surface into ensuring material becomes an integral part of the surface.
4- Apply the balance of material. Again wait until material has obtained a darker color before floating with a wooden float.
5- When surface is sufficiently firm enough to take the weight of a man leaving only minor indentations then surfaces should be finished off by means of a power trowel.
6- If manual finishing with steel trowels is to be undertaken, this should take place before concrete becomes firm enough to take foot traffic.
Consumption
Real consumption of ADMIX DS670 depends on concrete surface smoothness. As a general instruction 5 to 7 kg/m² is recommended for light traffic areas and 7 to 9 kg/m² where heavy traffic is expected.
Curing
As finished surfaces are dry, curing should be carried out immediately after the final trowelling operation has been completed. This can be done by water curing or covering with polyethylene sheets or by the application of curing compound. To avoid surface dry cracking, it is recommended to keep finish surface moist for 7 days.
Packaging
ADMIX DS670 is supplied in 25 kg PP bags.
Storage
This product should be stored in original bags under cover, out of direct sunlight and protect from extremes of compaction. Shelf life is 12 months.
Safety awareness
Like other cementitious products, ADMIX DS670 may cause irritation. Use personal safety devices while using this material. In case of any contact or splashing to eyes or skin, wash it with clean water for at least 15 minutes and get medical helps.
Equipment carefulness
Wash the equipment with water after completion of each phase of application or before break times.
